If there is one thing we like to see, it is the interesting ways people adapt their trucks to the purposes they have in mind.
And one of the most interesting of late is what truckie, Trevor Owens is doing with his NPR that he has bought for when he and wife, Lynda become ‘grey nomads’.
We refer to Trevor as a ‘truckie’ because he drives triple road train doing in the region of 4,000kms a week in servicing a couple of mine sites.
That surely is sufficient time behind the wheel to deserve the title of ‘truckie’.
Trevor and Lynda are keen prospectors so the first task the new NPR has had is towing their 24ft caravan to various outback sites for their prospecting.
What they have done with the truck is interesting as the impressive set-up reflects a fair amount of thought having gone into it.
They have mounted a sizeable custom box on the back of the NPR in which they have a slide-out 75-litre refrigerator while on the other side is a slide-out 2.4KVA generator. There have been adaptions to take 280 litres of fuel and two 50 litre water tanks.
Trevor says he decided to purchase an Isuzu for the job because he and Lynda will be travelling extensively and they know an Isuzu can be readily serviced by the multitude of dealers around Australia.
Furthermore, his brother-in-law had a fleet and was always pleased with them.
‘And there’s one further thing,’ he said, ‘if we get too old for our travelling we can always sell it – and I happen to know they get a good resale value.’
We can’t think of any better logic.
