The 2019 award recipients are as follows:
Port Hedland Branch: Jason Groenheide:
Port Hedland makes a point of recognising a special achievement and Jason’s achievement in 2019 was to complete his Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic Apprenticeship.
That of course means that Jason is now a fully-fledged Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic, a trade qualification well worth having as there will never be a shortage of work for a person with these skills. Manager, Tom Taylor describes Jason as a steady worker who achieved good results in his exams and who has the skills for clients to be confident of. Jason is well known in the district, having been born and raised in South Hedland. He’s well regarded in the team and deserves to be Staff Member of the Year.
Forrestfield Branch: Damien Westley
Clients who have had on-site servicing or needed our mobile break-down service will have met Damien, our mobile break-down service technician.
Damien has been with us for roughly five years, initially working in the workshop for six months and on the road ever since. The job suits Damien well as he enjoys meeting new people and established clients and he is happy to report that it is only the odd occasion when he receives a night-time call-out. It could be said that Damien was destined to become a mechanic as his father was a Motor Mechanic often working at home. The work was obviously infectious as it led to an apprenticeship in South Africa before he moved to Australia in 2008. Damien has made a real success of his role and well deserves his title of Staff Member of the Year.
Bibra Lake Branch: Noel Pratt:
Another vehicle technician to have taken the honours, is Noel Pratt, a well-seasoned vehicle mechanic who works on trucks and four-wheel drives in the Bibra Lake Branch workshop.
Noel began his working life as a panel beater and after two decades in this industry, he chose to do a mid-life change by retraining to become a vehicle technician. The change has been a great success as apart from being an outstanding technician he has also been a great coach for the workshop’s apprentices. According to manager, David Ireland, Noel has been a great asset to the workshop and well deserves his award.
Malaga Branch: Felix Mojica
Among the outstanding successes in our group of service technicians is Malaga’s, Felix Mojica.
Felix was one of several technicians recruited from the Philippines some years ago who have been outstanding contributors to Major Motors. He has been with the company 11 years now and at present is specialising in gearbox rebuilds. Branch manager, Ron Proberts described Felix as being an excellent team contributor as he not only does his work but is highly skilled and patient in training apprentices. Felix has just returned from a sojourn that he takes every two years of going back to the Philippines to catch up with relatives and have some homeland cuisine.
